Give a little, get a lot.

March 12, 2012

March 8th was International Women’s Day, and in honor of that, I decided to donate money to those in need through Kiva. I hadn’t heard about it until recently, and I was totally on-board when I did.

Kiva is a non-profit organization that allows you to act as a lending service (they call it microloans) to folks all around the world. The idea? To help alleviate poverty through getting loans to small business owners. You can read about each individual, and see how much money they need, and then contribute. Additionally, your first donation is basically “on the house”, so you get to just click a button and donate! Then you can make a second donation if you’d like, and that one you pay for yourself.

So what I had been thinking was: you know what? It’s probably best to take this $25 which isn’t difficult for me to just spend on who knows what (hey, a Chanel Glossimer is more expensive, and I don’t even bat an eye at that!) and give it to someone in need….someone who is trying to run a business.

How does this relate to International Women’s Day? I donated to a woman. 🙂 And Kiva was paired up with Dermalogica  (happens to also be my favorite skin care line), and they did a few things to help donations.

Cool, yeah? Little coin for the business owner, little twinkle in your good-deed bank. And then, you just feel better. Yay.
