Here, fishy fishy!

I thought I would let Nicole focus on the CSA side of the house while I covered the CSF.

This month, we decided to extend our support of local agriculture even further by acquiring a community supported fishery share.  Our share is with the lovely people at Cape Ann Fresh Catch and it brings us amazing fresh seafood every week- all caught in the Gulf of Maine.  The shares run for 2 months at a time, and you can select whether you would like a whole fish or a fillet share.  We joined about half-way through and got the fillet share.  Pickups are every Wednesday at a variety of locations- I chose Busa Farm in Lexington- a wonderful farm that sells organic, grass-fed beef as well as fruits, vegetables and various other treats.

For our first week, we received blackback flounder (also called winter flounder or lemon sole).  This fish is native to the North Atlantic waters and is considered a classic New England seafood staple of the Summer season.

Our fish were caught on 09/07/10 by the Donna Marie- a sea scalloper out of Gloucester.

The catch was perfect – firm, translucent and smelling of the ocean.  The fillets were clearly done by a skilled hand.

Though I thought maybe I would fry it, in the end I decided to dress it and put it in the rotisserie.

I combined olive oil, cracked pepper and an herbed salt from the Herb Farmacy and applied with a brush to both sides.

I then cooked it in the rotisserie for about 15 minutes (until the fish turns white and becomes flaky).

We served it up with some roasted potatoes and a dash of lemon juice.

I cannot wait to see what next week has in store!

    YUM! i dream of living in a place where i could get a fresh seafood csa. here in wisconsin we’re pretty limited to lake fish fare, which just isn’t as appealing to me. additionally, our lakes are so polluted that there are health dangers in eating too much of the fish. 😦

    We are truly lucky to be able to eat seasonally and locally. Sorry to hear about the state of your lakes! Do you get any good farm-to-table programs out by you? Also, Wisconsin makes me think you can get amazing dairy (and beer!).
